Christian Gehrke, a photographer currently living in Kennesaw, Georgia, is Bokeh Focus’ May Photographer of the Month. Gehrke’s photograph received the most votes among three other nominees. He previously won Photographer of the Week during the last week of May.
We interviewed Gehrke to share his advice and experiences with the greater Bokeh Focus community. He emphasizes the importance of remaining true to oneself. Telling photographers to, “Cling to your authenticity even when it’s easy to get wrapped up in your successes.”

What is the story behind the photos you’ve submitted?
Gehrke: These photos capture nature and the unique environments of Savannah and Kennesaw, Georgia. They were all taken spontaneously with the intent of capturing candid moments.
Do you have a specific theme or topic that is the focus of your photography?
Gehrke: Savannah, buildings, city, nature
What have you gained/experienced while working with this topic?
Gehrke: I’ve been able to improve on my photography skills while realizing that capturing moments as they are creates an authentic medium for showing others the unique aspects of Savannah and Kennesaw.
Tell us something about yourself that most people wouldn’t notice about you.
Gehrke: I’m very involved in my college community and I’m a founding father and the current Vice-President of Beta Upsilon Chi at Kennesaw State!
What’s a piece of advice you would offer to other photographers to encourage their creativity?
Gehrke: Cling to your authenticity even when it’s easy to get wrapped up in your successes, fame, or recognition.
