Nikki Raitz: Self Portrait
Bokeh Focus 2020 Exhibit_01
Our 3d, immersive virtual exhibit opened on Nov 13, 2020. Nikki was one of the exhibit's featured Atlanta photographers.
Nikki Raitz is 21 years old and currently pursuing a BFA in Drawing & Painting at Kennesaw State University. Motion and mystery are something that deeply inspire Nikki and this theme can be seen throughout most of her works today.
Nikki's show also included her biography and artist's statement.
Find them on Bokeh Focus under STORIES.

During this shoot, I asked my models to work with the fabric rather than against it.
In this shot, my model has become a part of the swirling fabric around her, creating a new shape as a part of a whole.

Nikki Raitz: Isolation — The Mask of the Mystique
Bokeh Focus Exhibit 2020_03
As a part of the pandemic, each of us has experienced a new sense of separation from the world around us.
Here my model has created a physical shield around her body to symbolize the more hypothetical boundary that now exists around her personal space.

Bokeh Focus Exhibit 2020_04
During these last few months, many of us have experienced the urge to lay down and wonder at our crazy new reality.
My model parallels the feeling of Alice lying at the bottom of the rabbit hole, questioning where she is and how she ended up there.

If one world could encapsulate how I have felt during this pandemic it would be ‘jumble’.
In this image, my model had wrapped themselves up and hidden themselves inside this piece of cloth.

Nikki Raitz: Isolation — Behind the Curtain
Bokeh Focus Exhibit 2020_06
As the world begins to adapt and adjust to our new normal, we can begin to pull back the curtain that has kept us separated from everything around us.
Here my model is adapting to dancing alongside an added element.

For many shoots, I asked my models to share with me their recent experiences through shapes and movements rather than words.

When people in images place themselves in small shapes they can appear wounded but at the same time, they can also pack power.
In this image, my model is crouched in a lonely position, but she also conveys the message that she can stand back up.

In this unplanned moment of rest, I captured a moment when my model found a quiet, still place to land between bigger movements..
This helps visualize the feeling of ‘waiting’ that has perpetuated the last several months.

It feels like some days I am waiting for a tipping point, that next action that will bring us over to a new state of normal.
In this image, my model is on a precipice, just barely balanced.
