“I have experienced
the inability to speak in a situation similar to what Baird discusses,” says Hu. “I have lost my voice before & my photos are a vehicle demonstrating my hunger for a voice.”

Hu says this piece also represents her own propensity to count likes and followers, giving her a personal connection to it, similar to the rest of this collection.

Having overcome mental health struggles in high school, Hu chose Rupi Kaur's poem because of its deep resonation with her. Hu describes the plastic wrap on her model as a symbol of suffocation — the inability to breathe in such a demanding society.

Hu believes people in Gen Z, herself included, often push to always earn that full score and base their self-value on achieving it.
